Our hottest tips

If good friends were to come to visit Stockholm, what would you take them to see, or recommend that they do on their own? Journalists at Metro Stockholm share their best tips on things people should know about the city.

Progressive views

Hermans Restaurant on Fjällgatan is located in something known as Hälsans hus, the "house of health". There's a lot of yoga and a self-realisation, but also Hermans vegetarian restaurant, with one of the most fantastic views in the city from the outdoor seating.

High and cool

Enjoy a coffee on the Kulturhuset roof terrace - very central, very urban and very cool. Unfortunately there'll be no clubs this year. The neighbours have complained.

Outdoor cafés at Stureplan

And watch stars, rich and beautiful people, passing by. Arrive early if you want to get a seat! From there, it's easy to move on to restaurants and nightclubs such as Kharma, Spy Bar and Sturecompagniet.

Shopping in Stockholm

Gallerian and NK in the heart of the city for mainstream shopping. Söder for small, fashionable shops such as Tjallamalla on Bondegatan, or for branded second hand clothes at shops like Tant Gredelin in Östermalm.

Swimming

Enjoy a swim in the city at Smeduddsbadet, extra points for swimming at night. Indoors and out: Eriksdalsbadet in Söder, in a pool where you can see and be seen. Centralbadet in the heart of the city is all indoors, and here you can enjoy champagne and a massage as well.

Check out the celebrities

TV4's dining room on Tegeluddsvägen and the coffee bar at Radiohuset on Oxenstiernsgatan are inexpensive and you'll always see someone you know.

Evening shopping

Is it raining? Take the underground to Kista and shop at the biggest mall in Scandinavia until 9 pm. And eat at the nicest food court in Stockholm. That's how close you can come to being abroad.

Keep fit

Boules involves just the right amount of effort in the summer. At Boule & Berså at Danvikstull, you can also enjoy a beer and a barbecue and listen to a live band at the same time.

Pretty much like Camden

At the Street outdoor market at Bergsund beach, you can buy a fridge magnet shaped like Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There's only one. And listen to live bands and drink beer in the sun.

Go travelling

Stockholmskortet gives you free access to public transport and boat routes, and entry to any museums which still charge entry fees.
