Food and drink in Stockholm

 

From a gastronomic desert to a culinary place of pilgrimage. That's how dramatically Stockholm's transformation into one of the most interesting places in the world to eat can be described. Both because there are so many really good restaurants, and because the standard is often high.


Christer Lingström's Edsbacka Krog is the only restaurant in Sweden to have been given two stars in the famous Michelin Guide.

Den Gyldene Freden, a traditional old restaurant and headquarters of the Swedish Academy, the body which awards the Nobel Prize for literature.

The best views

Eriks Gondolen. You have views all across the city at this place belonging to master chef Lallerstedt. Slussen. 08-641 70 90.


Grands Taverna. Views of the castle, a large smörgåsbord (buffet) and themed menus.


Hermans. Vegetarian restaurant on Fjällgatan, with views over all of Stockholm. Fjällgatan 23 A.


Right at the water's edge

Fjäderholmarna. Take a boat from Nybroviken or Slussen to Stockholm's nearest archipelago island. Open in summertime, and serving Christmas meals.


Restaurant "J". "Old J" at Nacka beach. "New J" a long way out at Lidingö.


Sandhamns Värdshus. Traditional old maritime inn. Take the Cinderella high speed boat from Strandvägen Sjöpaviljongen. At Mälaren beach.


Take the opportunity to have lunch at Lisa Elmqvist in beautiful Östermalmshallen.

The nicest restaurant in its district

Gamla stan. Good home cooking: Zum Franziskaner. Grilled: Grill Ruby. Lady and the Tramp atmosphere: many Italian restaurants.

Söder. Eat your way around the world: A la Turka, Chutney, Dionysos, Ho's, Koh Phangan, La Cucaracha, Little Persia, Lo Scudetto, Sonjas Grek, Guldapan. The most fun Swedish restaurants: WC, Snaps, Muggen, Bonden, Söders hjärta.

Kungsholmen. Classics: Hong Kong, Stadshuskällaren and Salzer. New: Lokal, Absinth, Mäster Anders.
