Sport in Prague

Ice hockey

The Czech Republic is one of the world’s major hockey nations. National hockey teams suffer from the fact that many of the best players play in the American NHL. Sparta and Slavia are Prague’s big teams.

Sparta Slavia’s home ground at Sazska Arena can hold a total of 18 000 fans.

Ice-skating

In the winter many open-air rinks are set up in Prague, including one right by the National theatre.

Football

The Czechs are on the march when it comes to football. Prague teams, Sparta and Slavia, are generally among the better teams in the top division, the Gambrinus league.

Prague’s classic football teams: Sparta and Slavia.

Letna park is perfect for jogging and for rollerblades.

Jogging

Do you want to do breathe in some clean air after all the exhaust fumes of the city–  if so, there are many nice green parks to walk or jog in.

Stromovka. Large green oasis near  the river Vltava in Prague 7.

Letna Letna. Park on a hill overlooking the old town in Prague 6. Favourite with local joggers and rollerbladers.

Riegrovy sady. Where joggers, tai-chi enthusiasts and yoga lovers gather. Prague 2.

Workouts

If you are staying at the Metro Travel’s Hotel Josef you have a gym on site in the hotel. At the Accome Julius hotel by Wenceslas square you are next door to the largest fitness centre in the city:

World Class. The newest, freshest-looking gym in the city with more than 40 stations. Vaclavské námesti 22.

Beck Box Club. Boxing, aerobics, spinning and more in a converted factory.

Adrenalin kicks

As with many places today, bungee-jumping and rope-climbing (Praha Roping Centre) can also be performed in Prague. One speciality of Prague in particular is the bobsleigh run in Prosek, close to the city, where you can shoot down the track at full speed – see photo!

Karlstejn is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Czech Republic, 18 holes, par 72.
