In the Marais district, small boutiques are tightly packed together, side by side.

Shopping streets

African. La Goutte d'Or. Exciting shops, restaurants and fragrances.

 

All in the same location. Champs Elysées. Large chains, luxury, young fashion. On Paris’ showpiece avenue you will find everything.

 

The luxury route. Rue St Honoré, Rue Fauborg St. Honoré, cross Champs Elysées and finish with Avenue Matignon. Probably the most luxurious in the world.

 

Cosy. The Marais district- small, exciting shops coupled with sweet cafés in a nice environment.

Department stores

Le Bon Marché. Paris’ oldest and most well known department store. 24 rue de Sèvres. Metro: Sèvres Babylone.

Conran Shop. English cookery chop that conquered Paris. Locations include 30 Boulevard des Capucines. Metro: Madeleine.


Street markets

Marché aux Fleurs. Beautiful flower market on the edge of the Seine. Also birds at weekends. Place Louis-Lepine.

 

Marché des Enfants Rouges. Oldest local market in the city. Fruit and flowers. 39 rue des Bretagne. Metro: Temple.

 

Rue Mouffetard. Food and flower market lined with fun and amusing shops. Metro: Place Monge.


Book markets

Bouquinistes. Book sellers along the embankments of the Seine, especially in the area around Nôtre Dame, give Paris a Bohemian feel. Quai de Montbello.

Flea markets

Porte de Vanves. Smaller market offering clothes, odds and ends, knick-knacks and furniture – great chance of some good finds. Metro: Porte de Vanves.

 

Saint Ouen/Clignancourt. Over seven hectares, flea market on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Metro: Porte de Clignancourt.


Sales

If you come to Paris in January and in the middle of summer (and sometimes on other occasions too) prices are at their lowest. Keep your eyes peeled for the word “Soldes” which is the French for “sale”.

Fauchon is a delicatessen with one of the best selections in the world – it is also one of the world’s most expensive.

Food and drink

Barthèlemy. One of the best cheese shops in Paris. 51 rue Grenelle. Metro: Rue du Bac.

Pierre Hermé. One of the best cake shops in the world.72 rue de Bonaparte. Metro: St German des-Prés.

 

Dehillerin. This is where the restaurant pros buy their cooking accessories. 18 rue Coquillière. Metro: Les Halles.
