Sport in Nice

The beach

Many of those who live in Nice spend lots of time on the beach, whatever the season. You can water-ski, windsurf, hang-glide and, of course, swim. NB! The beach consists of small to medium-sized pebbles – take bathing shoes or buy them when you arrive.

Nice Roller Attitude is Nice’s biggest roller-skating club and organises exhibitions and competitions etc.

Promenade des Anglais

There’s always life and motion on the promenade, here you can inline, cycle, jog, run or walk. Inlines can be hired along the promenade, as can bicycles if you want to explore the city and its surroundings on two wheels.

Jogging

If you’re not content with jogging along the promenade, continue to Place de Beauté at the old harbour and run along the Mediterranean to Villefranche, four kilometres away. Energy to spare? Carry on along the narrow, sometimes dizzying but always beautiful paths around Cap Ferrat.

Football

OGC Nice play their home games in the French league at Stade du Ray. You can also take the train to Monaco, where the football team have recently played successfully, both in the domestic league and the Champions League.

Golf

Along the whole of the Riviera there are plenty of golf clubs for all types of golfers. Monte Carlo Golf Club on Route du Mont-Angel has the finest views on the coast, at 900 m above sea level. The biggest and best training area is at Golf School on Route d’Antibes close to Biot.

Golf Country Club Cannes-Mougins is one of the Riviera’s most beautiful courses.

Tennis

Nice has more than 60 public tennis courts, for example: Crij at 19 Rue Gioffredo, Nice Lawn Tennis Club at 5 Avenue Suzanne Lenglen and Ligue de la Cote d’Azur at 66 Route de Grenoble.

Canoeing

In the summer you can hire a car and drive up to Provence to take a wonderful, exciting canoe trip along the Gorges du Gardon, close to Nimes and Avignon, past the 2000-year-old aqueduct Pont du Gard.

Skiing

What about skiing in the morning and then drinking an afternoon coffee at a sunny street café by the Mediterranean? From Nice it’s only a few hours by car or bus to Valberg, for example, with its fine slopes and good ski tracks.
