Getting around Barcelona

By air

The airport in Barcelona is El Prat and is about 12 km (7.5 miles) south of the city centre. The quickest and easiest way to get to the city is by train. It takes about 20-30 minutes, costs around 2.25 Euros and stops at Estacio de Sants, Plaça de Catalunya, Arc de Triomf and Clot. Taxis take about 40-50 minutes to Plaça Catalunya, costing around 20-25 Euros. The airport bus, approx, 3.50 Euros, departs every fifteen minutes from Plaça de Espanya, Gran Via/Urgell, Universitat and  Plaça de Catalunya.

Metro

Seven lines with a total of 123 stations. Line 1 is red, line 2 purple, line 3 green, line 4 yellow, line 6 blue, line 7 brown and line 8 pink. Tickets can be bought at larger stations. Buy a T-10 (10 tickets), one-day card or a card for two or more days.

Bus

Barcelona has almost 80 different bus routes; an easy way to travel and to see the city at the same time- outside rush-hour.

Taxi

It used to be easy to take a train to the yellow and black taxis – if the little green light is out it is easier to hail a cab in the street.

Bus Turistíc

A good way to familiarise yourself with the city quickly is to take the tourist bus which stops at 42 stops, encompassing almost all the major sights. Hop on and off where you want.

Tramvia Blau

The city’s oldest and only tram, goes from Plaça Kennedy to Tibidabo hill.

Funicular del Tibidabo

You can also get to Plaça de Tibidabo on the funicular railway from Plaça de Doctor Andreu.

Chairlift

Fantastic view of the port and city from this chairlift from the San Sebastià tower to the Montjuic hill.

Golondrinas

If you want to see Barcelona from the sea, take a tourist boat from the bottom of the Columbus statue where Las Ramblas becomes Port Vell.

Cycling

See Barcelona on a guided cycle tour or hire a bike and discover the city for yourself (if you are an accustomed cyclist). Locations include CicloBus at Plaça Catalunya and the Columbus statue.
